An iPhone app · No extra device needed
Follow a soft red light to sleep.
Lay your iPhone face-up by the bed. A dim red glow slows your breathing, then fades to dark. No pills, no voices. For bedtime, and for the nights you wake at 3 AM.

How it works
Nothing to hold. Nothing to read.
Find your pace
SlowLight starts at your rhythm and slows it from there, so there's no pace to fight.
Put it down
Face-up, out of reach. Tap Begin and lie back. No scrolling, no screen in your face.
Breathe and drift off
Breathe in as the glow brightens, out as it dims, or close your eyes and follow the sound. It fades to dark on its own, so there's nothing to switch off.
Why slow breathing? When you can't sleep, your body is still on alert and your mind keeps going. Slow breathing with longer out-breaths is a well-studied way to help your body settle. And following the glow gives your mind one simple thing to do instead of replaying the day.

Questions
Before your first night.
Isn't a phone in bed the problem?
You don't hold it or read it. It lies face-up, out of reach, showing only a dim red glow: no text, no white light, no notifications. Then it fades to dark.
Do I have to watch the light?
No. Watch the glow on the room, or close your eyes and follow the sound: a soft wave that rises as you breathe in and falls as you breathe out. It plays even when your iPhone is on silent.
Will it bother my partner?
You set how dim the glow is. The sound is soft, or choose Light only for silence. Everything fades to dark on its own.
Can I use it when I wake in the night?
Yes. SlowLight has no white screens, and Begin is one tap. To keep unlocking dim too, add Reduce White Point to your iPhone's Accessibility Shortcut (Settings › Accessibility), then triple-click the side button.
How long does it run?
8 or 20 minutes, your choice. Then the glow fades to dark and the sound to silence. The screen stays dimly on until then, so plug in if your battery is low.
What if it doesn't help me?
Then don't pay. The full version is free for 14 days, and nothing charges you automatically. After that, a simple breathing light stays free.
Is it a subscription?
No. $14.99 one-time, shared with your family. It works on any iPhone with iOS 18 or later. The app needs no account, and your settings never leave your phone.
"I built SlowLight for my teenage daughter. She'd lie in bed for hours, tired but unable to fall asleep. With the glow by her bed, she started falling asleep much sooner. I hope it helps you too."
